Her father was a mean, always angry, controlling and manipulating sexual pervert. He sexually, mentally, verbally and emotionally abused her till she finally left home at age 18.

He made her do things so distasteful to be mentioned. Joyce had to keep lots of secrets. Her father wanted to make her believe that what he was doing to her was good and it was their secret because if she told anybody, nobody would understand . They wouldn’t believe her anyway and then she would cause a lot of problems in the family.

Joyce Meyer grew up a lonely, abused and fearful child who never felt safe around her father. It’s either her mother was completely oblivious to what was happening to her or that she simply chose to ignore.
Her father would make her watch him making love with her mother through the key hole and she was supposed to tell him how it made her feel.

When she walks into a room and they were alone, he would reveal his private part to her in a bid to make her feel excited by the sight of it. It made her despise going to places where he was because anytime he had the opportunity he would grab her and abuse her.

Whenever he went to the basement to work, he would instruct her to wait 5 or 10 mins before coming down to meet him. He would molest her, touching her and making her touch him. She lived in constant fear that her mother would catch him and blame her.
To turn attention away from himself and the things he was doing to his own daughter, her father made her pretend to beg her mother to allow her go with him any time he was going out.

Every Friday morning when her mother goes grocery shopping, her father rapes her.
At a time, her father wanted her to bring girls home from school so he can do things to them also. Though she succeeded in making excuses for not bringing the girls home, her father succeeded in sexually abusing her friend, a girl who lived next door, a few times. Because of how shameful his acts were, Joyce and her friend never discussed Joyce’s father’s abuse. It made her ashamed of who she is, her parents and what her father was doing. *Shame poisons all your actions*
