In the year 1975, a young girl named Anneliese Michel had started
exhibiting some seriously bizarre behavior and no one in the family
could understand why.
Her staunchly Catholic mother resorted to contacting several priests to exorcise her daughter. Anne had three siblings one of whom passed away at the age of 8 putting a lot of pressure on Anne when it came to religion, prayers, and devotion. So, how did it all begin?
Anneliese Michel was born in Bavaria, West Germany on September 21, 1952. She began to exhibit signs and symptoms of epilepsy at the early age of 16 and even claimed to have hallucinations and hear voices which told her she was damned.
In the year 1968, Anneliese had a small black-out and was in a trance-like state for a couple of minutes. She had no recollection of the event and said she was fine.
Later that night, she had a very strong feeling that something heavy was on her body and she proceeded to wet the bed. She had about 2-3 attacks in the next year and by the third, Anneliese said she saw colors, heard sounds, and experienced feelings of euphoria while saying a rosary.
She was taken from one neurologist to another and given some medication. When the medicine stopped working for her, she started to believe that she really was possessed. She threw herself into reading Catholic books and graduated from college to become a teacher.
However, by the year 1973, her condition worsened and she began hallucinating while praying. She became obsessed with the thought that she was possessed and that the devil was inside of her.
From the year 1973, Anneliese's behavior spiraled out of control and got extremely weird. It is said that she licked her own urine off the floor, ate charcoal, ripped her clothes off and even ate bugs.
She could not help but avoid religious objects such as crucifixes and holy water. She started exhibiting all the symptoms of what the church considered as someone being possessed.
Her family requested for an exorcism and after initially declining, the church agreed. Her exorcism had to be carried out in extreme secrecy and all the priests who met her knew it was not epilepsy that they were dealing with and they were all in favor of the exorcism.
Fathers Arnold Renz and Ernst Alt, two priests from the local church, were given the impossible and scary task of exorcising Anneliese of any evil spirits which may reside in her. The family stopped her medication and started focusing on religious intervention.
Over a period of 10 months, the Fathers carried out 67 one-hour exorcism sessions with Anneliese in order to help free her from the devil. There are multiple audio recordings taken at these 67 sessions and in those recordings, one can hear very unnatural and distorted sounds coming out of Anneliese.
She was definitely for the exorcism, but the procedure and the possession made her grow weaker by the day. However, no medical intervention was sought and her condition continued to drop.
During the exorcism, the Fathers claimed to have interacted with at least 6 different demons or spirits that were residing within Anneliese. Lucifer, Judas Iscariot, Nero, Cain, Hitler, and Fleischmann, all made appearances and showed themselves during the 67 exorcism sessions that the Fathers performed.
Anneliese was not a very big built person but had to forcefully be restrained during the exorcism procedure. On certain occasions, she was even required to be held down by chains.
Eventually, the abuse took a toll on her body and she slowly succumbed to the process and possession. At the time of her death, she weighed no more than 70 pounds and her autopsy revealed that she had broken teeth, bruises on her arms and legs and black sunken eyes.
She suffered all this as a result of extreme exhaustion, malnutrition, and dehydration. In the last and moments of Anneliese's death in 1976, Father Alt and her mother both claimed to see Stigmata appear on her body.
Stigmata is a term used to describe wounds endured by Jesus Christ before his death. There was no real evidence of Stigmata on the body, but Father Alt also tried to ascribe some of the other wounds on Anneliese's body to the religious phenomenon.
Fathers Alt and Renz, as well as Annaliese's parents, were put on trial for negligent homicide in 1978.
Annaliese's parents were found guilty of negligent homicide, and were sentenced to six months in jail (reduced to three years of probation), and a fine.
The Catholic church changed its position stating she was mentally ill, not possessed. The case has been cited as an example of a misidentified mental disorder, negligence, abuse and religious hysteria.

*This was definitely demon possession not mental illness. The stress took a toll on her body. Annaliese's story inspired the 2005 movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
She died on July 1, 1976 aged 23 in her family home. These haunting photos show her actual life. I shared this story to show what demon possession does to one.

So if it was demon possession as you said why didn't the reverend fathers exorcism deliver her??? I like your blog it gives information's about the spiritual realm a whole lot. These are things we cannot get in churches. Please answer my question i'm waiting. Gonna be refreshing to check for the answer. By the way I love the video up
ReplyDeleteTruth is I can't say why the exorcism didn't work cos I am not God. The only thing I know is what the Word of God says about casting out demons, "And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons..." Mark 16:17
DeleteI once had an experience with casting out demons in one of our youth camps and sincerely, it's something you have to prepare for! That day I told myself, "Mitchelle, there's a whole lot to learn."
When the disciples of Jesus couldn't cast out the demon inside a man's son, they met up with Jesus privately later on and inquired why they failed to do so. Remember what Jesus said?
He said, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you." And Jesus added, "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
There is awesome power in the Name of Jesus but it depends on the one who uses it. Jesus Himself casts out demons with just one word, "Out!" and He says to us, "...whoever believes in Me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." John 14:12
You can do a study on casting out demons for better understanding.
Thank you for loving my video. God bless you. Remember to share with your friends. *smiles*
