It's always amazing to think of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. Hahaha! Even death could not hold Him captive rather He destroyed death completely. Wow! Jesus is alive and yes, I have seen Him. I see Him everyday. Where? Everywhere! In my life, all around me, inside me. He lives in me.
Some facts about Jesus' death and resurrection, and I want to share it with you.
-Jesus was assumed to be flogged 39 times according to the Jewish law (Deut 25:3) by the Roman soldiers with a lead-tipped whip. But since the flogging was carried out by Roman soldiers, it is not sure if they followed the traditional Jewish number of lashes for a criminal. It could have been more than just 39 lashes.
Jesus was subjected to a heavy dose of hate and torture.
-The lead-tipped whip is called a flagrum or flagellum or s scourging whip. The whip used on Jesus has three separate thongs, each ending with a set of two lead balls. The roughly shaped balls added weight to the beating and would tear the flesh of the victim.
According to Bible History, "Scourging would quickly remove the skin. According to history the punishment of a slave was particularly dreadful. The leather was knotted with bones, or heavy indented pieces of bronze.
Sometimes the Roman scourge contained a hook at the end and was given the terrifying name "scorpion." The criminal was made to stoop which would make deeper lashes from the shoulders to the waist."
-The cross Jesus carried weighed 165 pounds (that's 74.8427). That's a little above the size of an average human being I guess.
-The distance Jesus walked with the cross before Simon of Cyrene was made to take the cross from Him was for an estimated 650 yards or 594.36 meters.
-Jesus was sentenced by Pilate between 6-9am on Friday. He died around 3pm the same Friday and rose in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Wishing you happy resurrection day. And a most wonderful new month. God bless you. Off to get ready for church...
