What's up with churches that turn on their loudspeakers on the outside of their church, disturbing the neighborhood?
So this church has been disturbing the neighborhood for the past three days, night and day. In the night, as early as 8pm till 4am. Then early in the morning they start off again till 3pm. Smh.
I don't understand why a church would be having a program and decide that people will not sleep because of them. It baffles me really. What do we call it? Over-zealousness, abi or zeal without knowledge?
Why do we ever think it is spirituality to disturb the people around you with loud speakers when you are having a night vigil for God's sake? Why in the world do we do this? This is clearly indiscipline and being inconsiderate!
I remember when I was in the University, there was a whole lot of situations like this. Pesin go wake up around 5am and instead of going to a field away from the hostel to pray, he will be 'kabashing' inside his room (in a loud voice o!) or go to a nearby space, right under people window! What nonsense is that?
Hubby told me about one of his 'spiritual' roommates who did this continually, in fact he adamantly refused to stop until the guy earned a powerful slap from an aggrieved roommate.
This attitude is really sad among Christians. How do we ever think we would win people over to Jesus by doing this? How? It makes Christianity unattractive. It will chase them away rather than draw them to Christ when we can't allow people get a decent sleep because we are doing vigil or conducting a service.
Must we put loud speakers outside? Is it supposed to be a competition? What exactly are we trying to prove with this noise pollution?
Go to Lagos and see 'the battle of loudspeakers'. I hear that in one building there may be different denominations, each with their loudspeakers mounted outside, blaring. Who then will be heard? Seriously, this is not the way my God operates abeg. It can't be the Spirit of my Jesus.
Let these churches weigh their motives and their actions. Let them consider being in the shoes of their neighbors. How would they feel to have their sleep interrupted with loudspeakers after a hectic day at work and you come home to rest? It's wickedness and a criminal offense, if you ask me.
This saddens me and I felt I should drop this here. Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences.
*Jesus said, "Do unto others what you would like them to do unto you." Let's be disciplined and considerate of others as we practice our Christianity. Love not loudspeakers makes the Christian lifestyle attractive. It is what makes you stand out.

They are indirectly evangelising by so doing
ReplyDeleteEffective evangelism is done through the medium of love. Anything done outside love means nothing. If these people want to evangelize by depriving people of their sleep and quietness after a hectic day, then it's not love and it's not an effective way to evangelize. Rather than win souls, they probably are pushing them away.
DeleteLove says you should treat people the way you want to be treated.
