I read yesterday concerning a former PDP chairman's son stabbed to death by his wife and I asked myself, "What in the world will give a woman the capability of picking up a knife to stab her husband multiple times, including at his private part? What, what, what?"
I will tell you what it is - anger! Hang on with me cos there's something I really really need to show you.
The rate of murders and suicide cases in these times is alarming. Did you notice? Few weeks ago, one Hannah Osazuwa was arrested for allegedly killing her lover with a scissors after her 16th birthday. She stabbed him in the chest killing him instantly.
And the list goes on and on and on and on....endlessly.
Anger. Eph 4:26 says "Don't sin by letting your anger control you".
In other words, it's not a sin to get angry but it becomes a sin when you allow your anger control you and get the best of you. Why? Because anger is Satan's foothold and a lot of bad things happen under the influence of anger.
Foothold means a secure position from which further progress has been made; a position usable as a base for further advance. That is to say that anger gives the devil access into your life.
Prolonged anger breeds bitterness, resentment, hate, unforgiveness, pain, sorrow, even death. That's why Paul said, "Do not let the sun go down while you are angry."
So the secret of disallowing anger do its thing is:
1. Not letting anger control you.
2. Avoiding prolonged anger.
So basically, Paul was talking about two types of anger - The violent anger and the prolonged anger.
Being angry has caused so much damage to lives and property. Let's be cautious of this vice. Master your anger. Don't let it master you!
