Yesterday, social media was buzzing with the fact that drama minister Mike Bamiloye of Mount Zion ministries took it out on churches that invite comedians to church events.
He was not happy with some of the jokes cracked by comedians at the 'Experience'.
I do not know the sort of jokes made at the Experience but I heard from a good source that MC Abbey literally made some really irritating jests out of God's Word.
Comedy is beautiful, I love it but when it is obscene, crude and makes light the gospel of Jesus and all we believe in, then it is a no-no.
I know of Christian comedians like Aboki for Christ. Because he is born-again, he knows how to dish wholesome comedy without making jest of the Scriptures.
In fact, you even learn so much about Christianity by just listening to him. The young man sees his talent as a ministration and not basically just entertainment.
Why would a church invite a secular comedian to a spiritual event in the first place? It reminds me of when a particular church in Lagos invited Korede Bello to sing in their church.
The church is for spiritual ministration and not entertainment. It's very very important we watch who we allow to grace our altars.
Laughter is sure good medicine and a little bit of comedy is good for the soul. We all need it but whatever we do or say let it give glory to God and not make light the gospel of Truth.
Seriously when you fear God, there are things you don't joke with.
