I have been going through the tabloids reading about the fire at the Grenfell tower. So sad. From penned down notes of a child's dream and aspirations to good bye texts sent to loved ones.
I can't help but imagine what their last moments were like; the hopelessness of the situation as one watches helplessly as fire quickly engulfs their home.
The pain of seeing their children in this horrific situation, to watch them cry, the horror in their eyes, the fearful thought of "Will we survive this?"...it brings tears.
While so many were out there living their lives, these men, women and children saw their life flash before their very eyes, they literally smelt death just seconds away. While some were lucky to survive, others tasted death. They were not expecting it but it came.
Like every normal person they had lived. They started off their day like every other person but some never lived to see the next day while others lost almost everything to the fire. These were people with dreams, hopes, aspirations, laid out plans etc.
Gloria and Marco, 27, were engaged to be married and they moved into Grenfell tower's 23rd floor about 3 months ago. While they watched fire creep into their homes they spent their final moments telling their far-away parents in Italy they loved them with Gloria telling her mum: “Thank you for what you have done for me.”
I can't even begin to think of how heartbroken their parents must have been at that time knowing that their children may likely die.*Tears* It's so painful!
Zainab and her son, Jeremiah are still missing. She called her brother around 2am crying and saying there was so much smoke. By 4am, her brother lost contact with her and nobody has heard from them ever since.
A child's handwritten note which read, "I can not describe my feeling. I am very very happy. I have a lot of ideas and plans. I have lots of dreams I want to achieve,"was among the debris found outside Grenfell tower.
The Grenfell tower fire was said to have been started by a faulty fridge owned by dad-of-one Behailu Kebede who himself escaped the fire. He said is haunted by the incidence and that he knew most of the victims.
*This incidence should provoke us to think; to make us appreciate everyday, every moment, where you are, the opportunity to be alive, to have your loved ones around you.
You may not be in your best place yet, but think about these people what they went through and thank God for where you are and what He is doing.
You think your have the most problems in the world, some people are in worse situations than you yet they haven't committed suicide.
Think about the pain of these victims' loved ones. How are they feeling now? How heartbroken does it get for you to be aware that the one you love is dying at that exact moment and there is nothing you can do about it. It's anguish! It calls for thoughts.
These people were like us. They dreamed. They lived. Let's live each day appreciatively. Thank God for your life, your spouse, your children, your parents etc. Live thankfully.
