The Missing Piece of Armor

A soldier reported to his commander as their troops prepared for battle. The Commander’s eyes quickly scrutinized the soldier from head to toe and with a deep frown on his face said to him,
“One piece of your armor is missing…”
Surprised, the soldier assessed his gadgets to find that his helmet was not with him. Every other thing was in place: the breast plate, shield, sword, the belt and shoes except the helmet. ‘What happened?’ , he thought frantically. He must have forgotten it in his hurry to report to duty.
“Oh Sir!”, he grimaced, “I forgot my helmet! So sorry about that Sir. But I can still manage without the helmet since every other armor is here with me Sir.”
His fully armored superior shook his head and answered curtly, “No. It won’t do. To fight in this battle you need the ‘whole’ armor in order to win!”
“Forgive me sir…”, came the naïve soldier, “ but who exactly are we fighting? I’m very skilled. I believe I can handle our enemies without a helmet.”
The Commander gave a mirthless laugh obviously unamused by the young soldier’s confidence in his physical ability and said, “ Skills are not important here, young man. It’s not about your skills nor your ability rather it’s about obeying instructions and the instruction is that you should put on ‘every’ piece of armor. You know why?”
“No Sir!” ,replied the bewildered soldier.

“Because the battle is not against humans, flesh and blood. No. It is against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world and against evil spirits in the heavenly places! So you see, I can’t allow you go into battle when you are not fully clothed. You will surely lose…”
Pointing at him, he continued, “Do you notice that provision was not made for your back to be covered in armor?”
“Yes Sir!”
“And that’s because we don’t fight then turn around and run away. We don’t quit. We don’t surrender. We fight to finish but one thing is sure we will surely win!”
Impressed, the soldier apologized and left to retrieve his missing piece of armor.
