What should be your best response to someone who hurt you so bad? Forgive. The act of forgiveness is not easy but it opens doors. You are not just letting go of the person who hurt you but you are setting yourself free from bitterness, pain and constant anger. If you have been in that place before ( like we all have cos people have hurt us one way or another) you will agree with me that this is true. Let me not forget to mention that unforgiveness is the reason why many prayers are not yet answered.
Forgive is what these aggrieved people of Charleston, South Carolina did . Did you hear of the Charleston shooting by 21 yr old Dylann Roof who,in his words, wanted to start 'a race war'? Nine of the worshipers were gunned down, including the Pastor. Roof reportedly said that he "almost didn't go through with it because everyone was so nice to him," but later changed his mind. [Roof] had reloaded five different times, and he just said 'I have to do it. You rape our women and you're taking over our country. And you have to go.."
During Roof's bond hearing the grieving relatives of the nine worshipers gunned down at a Bible study in the basement of a South Carolina church painfully forgave the confessed gunman, Dylann Roof, and urged him to "repent and give his life to Christ". A gospel artiste also left a lone message for him on his facebook page, before it was taken down for security reasons, encouraging him to seek salvation in Jesus Christ.
So may be you are deeply hurt right now. Your heart is angry and you have vowed never to forgive the person who hurt you. By doing this you simply make yourself bound by this person and your past. When you go to God in prayer, He isn't listening because He said we must forgive so that He too will forgive us (Mark 11:25,26). To forgive is not an option but a command. Bear in mind that you too, being the human you are, have hurt other people one way or another. When you realize that we all have our shortcomings, then you will overlook other people's wrongs and forge ahead because clearly, unforgiveness makes you a slave to your past and it's impossible to move forward that way. So let go and let God. What He does with the person who hurt you is solely His business not yours. "Vengeance is mine. I will repay," says the Lord.
