A woman attended a church and later met up with the pastor who told her the story of her life, the past, the present and the future. It was hard not to believe him. Finally he told her the solution to her problems was deliverance through sex. And yes, she fell for it!
Many, like this woman, have fallen victims to these men who would even dare to use God's Name for personal gain. Jesus gave us a clue on how to spot fake pastors: "By their fruits you shall know them."
Here are some of their qualities:
1. They are controlling, manipulating and brainwashing:
They want to control every aspect of your life and so they twist the Word of God, using it as tool to brainwash you into doing their bid. These people don't want you to grow spiritually cos they want you running to them each time you are in need.
2. They don't preach the wholesome doctrine of Jesus:
What they dish out are pseudo truths and if you don't know the Scriptures, you will easily fall for it. Any doctrine or prophecy that doesn't coincide with God's Word is fake.
3. They lay more emphasis on prophecies, deliverance, miracles, signs and wonders:
In fact, this is their selling point. This is what pulls traffic to their church. People love prophecies, they want miracles so they give them what they want and masses throng to their church. More people means more money in their coffers.
4. They draw attention to themselves and not to Jesus:
In reality, they are not set on glorifying God but themselves. It's always about what they can do. They portray themselves as 'a powerful man of God' and then give you a list of what and what they have done; the man of God did this..,the man of God did that...So indirectly all glory goes to the man of God.
5. They preach more on money and materialism than righteous lifestyle, one's personal relationship with God and soul winning:
How people love to hear they will prosper!
"If you sow..., you will get a brand new car in 1 week!" and everybody shouts 'amen', but the spiritual lives of their congregation is of less concern to them.
That's why some will comfortably come to church dressed skimpily yet they are never convicted to dress decently. Some even come to do competition in church, of who is driving the latest car or wearing the most expensive material!
6. They love publicity:
These men are merely showoffs seeking popularity. Every single feat they accomplish must be broadcasted so that the world will know.
Remember the Malawian pastor who claimed to have walked on air, videoed it and put it on YouTube? That's publicity! It has nothing to do with God.
God wants to raise sons who are matured, who know their right from their left and not be swayed by every wind of doctrine. So ultimately, the only way you'd grow and be able to discern false pastors when you see or hear them is by knowing God's Word for yourself.
That's why today, many are deceived because they are ignorant. They run from pillar to post looking for solutions cos they don't know what God has said concerning them in the Bible.
Don't be too lazy to study the Bible. When you have the Word of God in your spirit, you will know 'fake' when you see one.
