In raising our children we ought to be careful so that they do not turn out rebellious, hypocritical or ungodly. When we as parents are high handed, imposing and unloving to our children, there is a probability that we will miss it in inculcating the true values while bringing them up. So what do we do? Let’s look at these tips:
1) Love your children: It won’t do any harm to constantly tell them ‘I love you’ and show it. A cuddle , an embrace, a smile daily reminds them that they are special and that they mean so much to you. It keeps them connected to you. You would not want your children to distance themselves from you, do you?
2) Pray for them: This is a very important and powerful habit. You take your time to speak into their lives, bless them and frame their future through your prayers. God sees your dependence on Him, your trust in what He is able to do in your children’s lives and I am so sure of one thing: God never fails. So, be persistent in praying for your children and watch God do wonders in their lives. Those simple seeds of prayers that you daily plant will speak for them in very dire situations I promise you.
3) Teach them the truth in love: Yes. Correct them in love not in anger or spite. When they go wrong or make the wrong decisions, don’t condemn them, lash out at them. It’s important you bring them close lovingly and point out to them lovingly what and what they have done wrong. Does it mean you shouldn’t discipline them? No. Even the Bible says: spare the rod and spoil the child. We should discipline our children in love because when we don’t , there is every possibility that they will habor anger and resentment in their hearts for you. In fact, it will make them believe you hate them.
