4) Tell them the truth: Be open to them. Be sincere. Do not hide the truth from them no matter how sensitive the issue is. For instance, some parents still find it hard to talk sex with their children. Sex education should begin from home. The world is sexually explicit and it is required of you to tell your children everything they need to know in the wisest way possible. If you hide this information from them , they will certainly get it from the wrong source and would want to experiment it. Their ignorance will increase their curiosity but when you keep them aware, making them understand the spiritual, emotional and psychological implications of the topic, it makes them less prone to dabble into it.
5) Be friends with your children: You are not just a parent. Be their friend. Someone they can confide even their deepest secrets without the fear of being judged. E.g. their sexual challenges, peer pressure etc. Discuss with them, laugh with them, play with them, go out with them, and bring them close. You will find it is easier to deal with your children when they are your friends. Don’t be that stern parent with a smile-less face and an ever ready whip waiting to bully your children into obedience instead be loving, listening, understanding and ever smiling parent.
6) Train your children up in the way they should go so that even when they are old, they will not depart from it. I didn’t say this. God did. When we do our part, God surely will keep His part of the deal. He doesn’t back out on a pact. God’s Word is the foundation of their training, not the media, not the society, only God’s word in the Bible.
7) Be an example: Be a model to your children. Someone said that a child learns more from what you are than what you teach. Do not let your lifestyle contradict the values you are teaching your children.
*Hope it helps. Love you all.
