The old man led them to a crossroad.
"Here," he pointed at a spacious road on the left. Beside it is an old wooden board with an inscription, 'DEATH'.
"This road has on it all the pleasures you can ever dream of. But beware, at the end of it is a deep gully. There is no chance you'd make it out alive."
His two companions stared hard at the road. It was so wide and inviting that they were literally drawn to it. The road led to the most beautiful women, houses, cars, foods, drinks and any form of enjoyment and pleasure you can ever dream of. It's beauty was glaring.
'What does it matter? Why not live your life first and worry about the gully later, that is if there is really a gully in the first place...,' one of the young men thought to himself
"And that," the old man intercepted his thoughts, pointing to an old undulating path on the right. It also had a wooden board with an inscription which said 'LIFE'.
"...that path, though unattractive and very difficult to pass through, holds a beautiful promise in the end. You only need to be patient and persevering to reach it."
The young men took a closer look at the ancient path. It appeared less people ply it for it was almost overgrown with bushes. It would take a good looking at to know there was even a path there.
The path was so narrow that it wouldn't even have room for extra baggage.
Then the old man turned around, his eyes weighing upon the two young men.
"It's left for you to choose. Will you choose the wide road which offers you instant gratification and enjoyment but it's end is death or will you choose the ancient path, difficult and painful but after much work, sweat and tears, you will win an eternal reward?"
The young men remained silent. It was obvious they were yet to make up their mind.
Then pointing at the path on the right, the wise old man said,
"If you love your life, choose that. But then the decision is yours to make not mine, to take the right or the left. But remember you are solely responsible of the choice you'd make. Good luck."
With that final instruction, the old man left his young companions behind at the cross roads to choose their destiny.
