Years back, I was talking about the concept of death with a friend and she was literally shocked I should be discussing about death so casually. I laughed.
There is actually nothing to fear in death if you are in Christ and yesterday, Pst Sarah reinforced what I believe (God bless you ma! I've learnt a lot from you).
Death is a taboo subject that people don’t like talking
about because of the fear that when they talk about it, it will likely happen to them. So it's dreaded, forbidden, in fact people cast and bind when you mention that name!
A woman I love and admire because of her simplicity and sincerity, Pastor Sarah Omakwu
of Family Worship Centre, spoke on death, saying that contrary to what people
believe, death is a good thing with benefits.
Her aim was to demystify death
and open our eyes to see the wonderful blessings in death, to spur us to live
ready and start preparing for death 'cause death is inevitable.
“Take away the fear of death”, she announced excitedly. “For
what you fear will come upon you!” She further explained that death for a Christian means 'to sleep, a transition, an
exchange of mortality for immortality, a final defeat of death'.
So what blessings are in death?
Heaven, because you depart from a sin-laden world to a
perfect place.
You meet with Jesus face to face (finally!)
You reunite with your loved ones who died in Christ (yeah, I
will see my dad again…*dancing*)
It brings to you your
rewards.
People are afraid to die because of their fear of the
unknown (Ecc 7:1), their unhealthy attachment to the world and material things or their fear
of the process of death.
Now this is not to make us wish for death but rather it is
to make us live free from the fear of death and to daily live ready. Do not
allow the devil ensnare you with fear (Heb 2:14). On daily basis, while you are here, credit your heavenly
account with your time, talent and treasures.
Can you answer this question: If
you had only one year to live, what would you do?
Live purposefully.
