Zika virus is an emerging mosquito-borne virus that has been linked to birth defects and severe brain damage in newborn babies.
Recently, it was found that Zika virus could be transmitted via sexual intercourse after traces of it was found in semen samples from a patient.
Its symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes).
Presently, there is no vaccine or treatment available. The only way known to fight it for now is to clear stagnant water where mosquitoes breed, and protect against mosquito bites.
According to the World Health Organization, the virus is likely to spread across nearly all of the Americas.
It has already been found in 21 countries in the Caribbean, North and South America.
Medics are most worried about the damage the virus can potentially cause to babies in the womb.
Brazil has recorded a huge spike in cases of microcephaly - the condition where babies are born with unusually small heads - and a number of Central and South American nations have asked women to delay pregnancy.
There have been 3,893 reported cases of microcephaly in Brazil since October compared with the previous annual average of just 160 cases.
3 new U.S. victims are said to have acquired Zika abroad. Health officials in the U.S. are warning female travelers of child-bearing age in particular to take special precautions when visiting other countries, or cancel trips abroad entirely for now.

*I wrote on pestilences here. The outbreak of all these strange diseases cannot be a coincidence. My heart weeps to see all these tiny innocent children affected. Please let's pray!
I hope to write on pestilence soon. God is merciful. Stay in Christ and be safe.
