Popular rapper, the Game, says "Jesus is my saviour but I still love going to strip clubs and smoking marijuana"
A spiritual awakening Game experienced after reading the Bible and attending church was the inspiration for the album.
The rapper publicly declared that he was baptized at Bishop Noel Jones' City of Refuge Church in Gardena, California in 2011 but has struggled to completely let go of his former lifestyle.
"The album is called Jesus Piece, and it's basically about wanting to be a Christian, right?" he explained to Sister 2 Sister magazine. "But not wanting to change all the things that I love doing. Like, you know, I've been baptized. I go to church. I love God ... but at the same time, I love going to strip clubs. Sometimes I smoke marijuana. And I still love drinking alcohol and chilling. I don't want to be judged for that ... so that's what the album is about."
The rapper explained his reasoning for the deluxe artwork to MTV News: "I did the album cover the way I wanted to. It embodies part of my career, my life; it's all in that cover. And, you know, I love God, Jesus Christ is my savior and I'm still out here thuggin'," he said.
Song facts
*When we become born again, something happens to our spirit. We are not the same. The Holy Spirit comes in to dwell in us. Sure, when we become born-again, only our spirit did not our body. Our body still wants what it wants.
And because our spirit is born-again, our desire becomes to please God. Will we still be tempted to give in to the flesh? Sure, we will. But because we love God and want to please Him, we make the daily choice of choosing His will over what our flesh wants. You can't say you are born-again and still be in love with the world.
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world (1John 2:15-16).
In these days of lax Christianity where some people think they can have one leg in God and one leg in the world. I hope the Game truly embraces Jesus rather than making an excuse for these sinful habits.
