Someone may ask, "Jesus was made perfect through suffering. Does it mean He was not perfect in the first place?"
Jesus actually was perfect in every way. He was morally perfect and without sin. But even though He saw and He knew the sufferings of man, He would need to experience it first hand; to be in our shoes or be where we have been in order to be qualified to be the captain of our salvation and our High Priest.
"For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings" (Heb 2:10).
Through His sufferings Jesus became fully qualified to serve in that position. I love how someone wrote it - "There are some things you can learn by watching others experience that you cannot completely understand until you share that experience."
Now, Jesus perfectly understands what we are going through and knows exactly how to help us because He has been there.
"For in that He Himself had suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
Why did Jesus share our humanity?
1. To bring many sons to glory by making Jesus perfect through suffering (Heb 2:10).
2. That through His death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is the devil (Heb 2:14).
3. To release those who through the fear of death were all in their lifetime subject to bondage (Heb 2:15).
4. That He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God; to make propitiation (appeasement) for the sins of the people (Heb 2:17).
5. He is able to aid those who are tempted (Heb 2:18).
