Can BDSM Be Practiced in Christian Marriage? A Biblical Perspective on Intimacy and Boundaries

Comedian Arole weighed in on this question and his answer was a big NO. And I agree with him.

For those who don't know BDSM is, BDSM stands for:

B – Bondage

D – Discipline

D – Dominance

S – Submission

S – Sadism

M – Masochism

It refers to a wide range of consensual sexual practices that involve power dynamics, role-play, and physical stimulation—often pushing the boundaries of pain, control, and pleasure.

I believe that there are three questions that should guide what we do during sex in marriage.

1. Is it mutual?

God created sex to be enjoyed by both man and wife, it shouldn't be one sided. If you want to try something new and your spouse is not comfortable with it, don't force them. Let your spouse be until he/she is ready for it.

2. Is it safe?

Some couples engage in extreme sexual activities that can endanger their health or their life.

For instance: participating in degrading practices such as sadistic bondage rituals , asphyxiation (where couples are actually aroused or achieve orgasm by cutting off oxygen supply to the brain), etc.

Anal sex is known to cause anal prolapse. If you love your spouse, please consider their safety first before pleasure.

3. Is it godly?

Don't say because you both are married we can do anything we want to spice up our sex life as long as we are both okay with it.

And so with each other's full consent you engage in threesomes foursomes, orgies, open marriage, swinging, watching pornography, voyeurism where the woman has sex with other partners while her husband watches her.

No that's so wrong. Please remember that God is still the third person in your marriage and your marriage is sacred.

Hebrews 13: 4 says: Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex.

There are great ways to spice up your sex life without doing anything unilateral, unsafe and ungodly.
