Jesus had an encounter with a fruitless
(fig) tree when He was hungry in Mark 11:12-14. He cursed the tree cos though it was so
full of leaves yet it had no fruit to show for its lushness.
But note this very important point: it was not the season for figs. So why would Jesus curse it?

I believe the Lord is
pointing out to us a very very important life lesson about stewardship;
as to the kind of tree He wants us to be - the kind of tree that bears fruit
in season and out of season. Like the trees planted by the side of the
water in Revelations 22:2. The Bible says they
bear forth different fruit every month through out the year!
'On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of
fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine
to heal the nations.'
As
long as we are planted by the river of life, we must bear fruit in
season and out of season because we are constantly supplied by the Divine; whether the time is right or not; in the good times and
in the bad times. We don't take breaks. We keep working. We keep doing.
God
wants to use us year in, year out; constantly, every day, every minute.
He wants us to be constant carriers of His love to other people around
us. There is no retirement,no leave, no rest period or break periods in God's
kingdom.
It's only work, work, work! And grace has been given to us to
make it happen.
So the question is: are you working? Or you're probably taking a nap? Don't waste the resources God is pumping into you. The fruit we bear is the proof of our discipleship.
